SCANNER NARRATIVE

A forest creature at home flitting in and above Ironleaf's rich canopies. The scanner records an acidic tongue used to penetrate trees and extract soft inner wood. Additional observation: tongue parasites.

DIRECT OBSERVATION

Morphological Description

A pale aerial organism with an elongated body, broad angular wings, a rounded head, dark eyes, and a narrow forward-projecting snout. Blue and tan banding is visible across the torso and wings.

FIELD BEHAVIOR

Behavioral Observation

The scanner record describes persistent aerial movement above forest canopies and feeding through an acidic tongue used to penetrate trees. No active feeding event was preserved in the available field image.

SUPPORTED INTERPRETATION

Ecological Context

The scanner places this species in forest canopies and describes feeding on the soft inner wood of trees using an acidic tongue. The field record confirms an aerial body plan suited to canopy movement, while feeding behavior and tongue parasites were not directly observed.

The preserved evidence supports cataloguing this organism as a distinct fauna record. Broader ecological relationships remain provisional.

UNRESOLVED

Outstanding Zoological Questions

  • Structure and operation of the scanner-described acidic tongue.
  • Identity and effect of the reported tongue parasites.
  • Whether feeding damage can be identified on local trees.
  • Relationship to O. Scoopheyroe.
  • Distribution beyond Survey Site Alpha.

Archive Significance

U. Scroffirus establishes one authenticated zoological record from Serene Basin. Its field imagery, scanner data, and preserved behavioral observations provide a baseline for comparison with future Ironleaf fauna records. No explorer common name has currently been assigned.

ARCHIVE PRESERVATION

Preservation Justification

Retained as a scanner-verified fauna record from Survey Site Alpha. Preservation supports future comparison of morphology, behavior, scanner-recorded ecology, and common-name assignment across Ironleaf.
